The Laidlaw Disability Group (also known as the Disability Advisory Group or Reference Group) guides Laidlaw College’s ongoing engagement with disability belonging, inclusion, theology, and accessible educational practice. Formed in 2011, the group brings together Laidlaw staff, students, and external contributors to explore how the Christian gospel shapes our understanding of disability, human dignity, community, and faith. Through theological reflection and practical guidance, the group supports the College in developing inclusive practices that ensure disability is recognised not as peripheral, but as integral to the life, teaching, and mission of Laidlaw College. At Laidlaw, disability belonging is understood through a theological framework grounded in the belief that all people are created in the image of God and fully included in the life and love of Christ.
This framework informs the College’s teaching, community life, and institutional practices, helping to foster a learning environment where all people can participate, contribute, and flourish. The Disability Group continues to provide advisory input as Laidlaw College seeks to build a more inclusive, accessible, and theologically informed community. In service of the College’s vision of a world shaped by love compelled and informed by the gospel, the group helps ensure that disability belonging remains central to Laidlaw’s mission of equipping students and scholars to renew their communities with a faith that is as intelligent as it is courageous.

Laidlaw draws students from across the whole church — diverse in denomination, culture, language, and ethnicity. We worship in different ways, but we share one Lord, one gospel, and one mission. Coming to Laidlaw means engaging with the rich diversity of what it means to be Christian in Aotearoa, and discovering more deeply why God has called you to your particular place in his body.
At Laidlaw, we believe God calls each of us to particular work in the world. Through our programmes and community life, we invite you to prepare yourself to follow that calling faithfully — whether in church leadership, teaching, counselling, business, law, or any other sphere of human vocation. Renewal is not just what we teach; it is what we are sent to live.
