Community Life
Community is built into the rhythm of college life at Laidlaw. Each week during term, students eat together — a simple habit that creates real connection across cultures, denominations, and stages of study. Cultural nights and language week celebrations bring the college’s diversity to life, giving students the chance to share and experience one another’s heritage. Dedicated spaces support everyday connection too: challenge a friend to table tennis, gather around the Grace Table, relax in the lounges, or cook together in the communal kitchens.
Online students stay connected through tutorials and online lectures, keeping them linked to lecturers and classmates wherever they’re studying from. Free public lectures and workshops open Laidlaw’s community further, welcoming the wider public into conversations that matter. Community Pages make it easy to start an interest group or connect with others for accommodation and flatmates.

Lecturers and students come from many church backgrounds, united by faith in Christ. Laidlaw holds firmly to its evangelical convictions, while encouraging students to explore the richness of their own — and other — denominational traditions in light of Scripture and the Spirit’s ongoing work in the world.
Laidlaw has a long tradition of bicultural engagement. Its commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi runs deep, alongside a dedication to developing Māori and Pasifika leaders and indigenous theology.
Laidlaw is a genuinely multicultural community, with staff and students from many nations and cultures, inspired by a vision of the new creation where every nation and language declares the glory of God.
Laidlaw is also a community that makes room for everyone. It’s committed to supporting the success of students with disabilities and other barriers to tertiary study, and every student has access to personalised learning support from a dedicated team of specialists.

Yes! In addition to all the online resources available, distance students can access the print collection at our Auckland campus.
Library staff can send print books from our Main and Short Loan collections to your chosen address, and we will include a return courier bag for you to send them back to us.
We can also scan single chapters or journal articles from the Auckland campus print collection. Please email libraryAuckland@laidlaw.ac.nz with any scanning requests.
Yes! We offer annual library subscriptions at our Henderson and Christchurch campuses, which allow you to borrow six print books at a time. The cost for alumni is $80 per year, and the cost for members of the public is $160 per year. Please note that this subscription does not allow access to electronic resources, including ebooks.
