New Zealand is a modern country with a rich cultural heritage that is strongly influenced by the indigenous Māori culture, the past British colony and its more recent migrants, mainly from the Pacific Islands and Asia. Located in the South Pacific Ocean about 2,200 km east of Australia, New Zealand is made up of two main islands known as the North and South Islands.
New Zealand (or Māori name, Aotearoa) is a place of great natural beauty ranging from sandy beaches and marine reserves to native sub-tropical forests, from geothermal hotpools to majestic mountain ranges. It is also home to the flightless native Kiwi, with “Kiwis” being the nickname given to those living in New Zealand. It is also a country free of snakes and no dangerous animals.

AUCKLAND
With a population of around 1.8 million, Auckland is New Zealand’s largest and most multicultural city. Situated on two harbours the “City of Sails” offers quick access to beaches, regional parks, islands and walking trails, as well as all the usual things a large city offers – a museum, art gallery, zoo, and shopping malls.
CHRISTCHURCH
Christchurch is New Zealand’s second largest city with the Avon River winding through its centre. Vibrant and cosmopolitan, Christchurch is the gateway to exploring the wild beauty of the South Island with its beaches, ski fields, glaciers, rivers and lakes. It is a great place to live, study, and play.

Yes! In addition to all the online resources available, distance students can access the print collection at our Auckland campus.
Library staff can send print books from our Main and Short Loan collections to your chosen address, and we will include a return courier bag for you to send them back to us.
We can also scan single chapters or journal articles from the Auckland campus print collection. Please email libraryAuckland@laidlaw.ac.nz with any scanning requests.
Yes! We offer annual library subscriptions at our Henderson and Christchurch campuses, which allow you to borrow six print books at a time. The cost for alumni is $80 per year, and the cost for members of the public is $160 per year. Please note that this subscription does not allow access to electronic resources, including ebooks.
