Pasifika Support
Our Pasifika-focused staff work alongside Laidlaw’s wider Student Support team to provide academic and pastoral care tailored to you, from enrolment through to graduation. Whether you need help with assignment planning, referencing, study strategies, or simply someone to talk to when life gets hard, support is available on campus or remotely via email, Teams, or Zoom. You’re never alone in your journey — reach out whenever you need us, and we’ll walk alongside you every step of the way.
Cultural and Community Events
Throughout the year, you’re invited into a calendar of events built for connection. Kick off Semester 2 at our Pasifika Connect Lunch during Orientation Week — great food, laughter, and reconnection with your community, family welcome. Join us at Ōtautahi Polyfest, celebrating Pacific culture and pride alongside schools and communities across Canterbury. And don’t miss Culture Night, a free celebration of song, dance, art, poetry, and comedy from across our community’s many cultures and countries.
Moana Lounge
On our Auckland Campus The Moana Lounge is a dedicated Pasifika space to study, relax, and connect. Share a meal, swap stories, talk through challenges, and celebrate wins with other Pasifika students in a warm, culturally safe environment. Whether you need somewhere to work or simply be yourself, the Lounge is always open to you.
Joanna Oh supports students from enrolment to graduation, both on campus and studying at a distance. Based between Te Wāhi Maīoha (Henderson welcome pod) and the Henderson library, she helps with academic questions, pastoral care, and finding resources.
Originally from South Korea, Joanna grew up in Tauranga with time in Seoul and Melbourne. Her background spans fine arts, ESL teaching, and community events at Tauranga City Libraries.
Outside work, she enjoys nature walks, the beach, and trying new recipes.
Jeremy is the Library Manager at the Deane Memorial Library, Henderson campus, ensuring students have smooth access to the library catalogue, journals, e-books, and online resources — and know how to use them. He also oversees collection development and cataloguing.
Jeremy’s library career began in the 1980s, later spanning 18 years with library software vendors, including work with BCNZ/Laidlaw College from 1992, before joining the team in 2010. He gained his Diploma in Information and Library Studies in 2016.
Jeremy is married to Carol, has three adult children, and enjoys restoring classic cars.
You’ll find Hananja in the Latimer Library on Laidlaw’s Christchurch campus, helping students access the catalogue and make the most of learning resources, alongside academic and pastoral support for holistic care throughout their studies.
Hananja loves journeying alongside students — celebrating their growth and helping them discover their own capability and confidence. She’s especially passionate about making theology and academic study feel accessible, particularly for women and those new to study.
She studied Applied Theology at Carey Baptist College and has worked in disability, mental health, and foster care. Outside work, she volunteers with Christchurch RDA and loves horses, the ocean, and a good book with hot chocolate.

Yes! In addition to all the online resources available, distance students can access the print collection at our Auckland campus.
Library staff can send print books from our Main and Short Loan collections to your chosen address, and we will include a return courier bag for you to send them back to us.
We can also scan single chapters or journal articles from the Auckland campus print collection. Please email libraryAuckland@laidlaw.ac.nz with any scanning requests.
Yes! We offer annual library subscriptions at our Henderson and Christchurch campuses, which allow you to borrow six print books at a time. The cost for alumni is $80 per year, and the cost for members of the public is $160 per year. Please note that this subscription does not allow access to electronic resources, including ebooks.
